Ain’t having friends in fashion the most glorious thing?

The parties. The champagne. The sparkling conversation. The creative nuance. Such fabrics!

Enter Mirall. Founded by two of Wasted Talent’s dear friends. Based and heavily inspired by a city that has captivated our hearts for a long time, Barcelona. The creative marriage between an architect and a fashion designer resulting in a clean aesthetic, an elegant approach to streetwear, inspired by modernism.

The origin of the brand’s name comes from the Catalan word meaning mirror; “Everything we create is a reflection of ourselves.”

And to celebrate Mirall’s arrival at Wasted Talent Boutique, we sat down with founders Cristina Del Peso and Carles Medina to gain a deeper insight into how it all began.

Where did the idea for Mirall first come from?
.
The idea came from the fact that we wanted to create something to express ourselves. With backgrounds in art it came very natural for us to be able to develop a project like Mirall.
.
How did you guys decide on the imagery and brand identity?
.
Truth is we did not decide anything. The imagery and brand identity is who we are. Never wanted to force ourselves in being something we are not. So the easiest thing was to be our ourselves and it turned out we love it!
.

.
What initial hardships did you find in starting a clothing range?
.
First and foremost was to find a place to produce with high standards of quality and at the same time be able to do a small production so every product in our collections is never restocked when sold out.
.
How do you approach the design process?
.
We love the design process! We come up with an idea, always related with something we love. Our city, architecture, photography, art, etc. From that point we researched on the subject and created moodboards of inspiration, textures, colours and fabrics. Then came the first sketches and samples. After a long process a collection is ready to be produced always following our personal creative process and staying true to our feelings.
.
.
How has the brand evolved since you first begun?
.
We are constantly evolving as we are constantly inspired by everthing that surrounds us. We start with a collection inspired by the most common superstitions, we wanted to create something related to the brand’s name and the idea of a broken mirror.
As we grow we try to show more of who we are and what we like. You will see a lot of art, surf and yoga in our upcoming collections.
.
Can you talk a little about the concept behind the latest line entitled Pegasus?
.
Pegasus is the second capsule collection in a series inspired by Catalan modernism and the architecture synonymous with it.
.
The collection owes its name to the figure on the ceiling of the Palau de la Música Catalana, designed by the modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner in the early twentieth century. It is the only concert hall to have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
.
The prints featured in the collection were created in collaboration with the textile designer Malen Agirre, who has incorporated her own interpretation of this magical space. The orange flowers and green details stem from the natural imagery of the ceiling itself, while blacks and whites evoke the sober elegance of the musicians on concert nights.
.
At the centre of the collection are two pieces: a suit with embroidery details, and a scarf inspired by the concert hall’s central skylight, which in turn represents the sun.
.
Both are mystical and alive with paradox – just like the building in Barcelona whose spirit the collection channels.

How would you like to see the brand evolve going forward?
.
We would love to grow bigger but always staying true to ourselves.
.
Any last words?
.
Thank you to all those who support us and have collaborated with us just because they like what we do want and want to help us to grow the brand.
