Once again, the Vans Duct Tape Invitational duly delivered.

A vibrant melting pot of good humans and good vibes, embracing the local community whilst showcasing exquisite logging skills in challenging conditions, to say the least. Let’s just say Praia Da Macumba wasn’t exactly tranquille. The waters were rough and in a Duct Tape first, Jetskis were deployed. Nevertheless the show must go on and it did not disappoint, with crowd favourite Jasmim Avelino winning the expression session being a particular highlight.

As for the comp itself, Justin Quintal took his eleventh victory, a year after taking the crown in Sayulita, despite Stevie Sawyer pushing him all the way. Shout out to Knost for reaching the final four having only recently recovered from a broken leg. Avalon Gall deservedly took the women’s crown having shown great consistency across the weekend. Her shared wave with childhood friend Kelis Kaleopa’a a fitting reminder not to take things seriously and that surfing really is all about fun.
