For The Crib offers an intimate look into the lives of the members of the South Shore Drill Team, captured at the 2021 Bud Billiken Parade.
The South Shore Drill Team uses the performing arts to engage inner-city youth throughout their critical teenage years, mitigate the dangers of gangs, drugs, and violence, and guide members towards completing their education and becoming responsible citizens.
Director Lawrence Agyei documents the group’s return to the Bud Billiken Parade in 2021. A significant event, as the parade was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film offers a unique perspective on the challenges faced by the South Shore Drill Team as they prepare for the parade, including the physical demands of their routines, the emotional toll of the pandemic, and the importance of community support.
