Indonesia by Kylian Castells

Kylian Castells is a brilliant filmmaker, and despite the fact he hails from Barcelona, we got to know him more when he was based in the lovely seaside city of Gijón, Asturias. Despite its questionable architecture, the place can get pumping surf, and the town center can turn into a San Sebastian on steroids at night… which is dangerously fun. Anyway, that’s when we started hanging out more with Kylian, as he has working on Ábaco, the Narval Wetsuit video that he was directing. And what a beautiful couple of months followed… From the madness of filming it, to premiering the project all over Europe, it was a blast. And most of it is due to Kyli’s personality and his talent and dedication behind the lens and in the editing cave…

Kylian has kept busy since, shooting a lot, and releasing a couple of amazing pieces such as “Black Carnival” and “Lesser Sunda” which marked his move from the old continent to Indonesia. And who are we to blame him, as we just experienced – and are still experiencing – one of the worst winter ever in Europe. But when most would be kicking back enjoying pool parties, Mai Tais and the invariable other perks of the tropics – Kylian invested into a new camera/water housing and spent most of his time experimenting with it, as you can witness in the last sequence of Tito Lavole‘s new clip, Paarkesine.

The following series is a brief photo report of his time traveling the country & creating magic in and out of the water along the way. If don’t already follow Kyli, we strongly advise you do so, as on top of being one of the funniest individuals to go on a trip with, he is one of the rawest talents of his generation in European surf filmmaking.
