IT IS NO SECRET THAT THE CRITICAL SLIDE SOCIETY IS A BRAND WE TRULY ADORE.

The small label is the brain child of two solid blokes – Sam Coombes and Jimmy Slide. Both Jim and Sam shared an exclusive vision: they were to give the brand the longest name the industry had ever seen. On top of creating a name that was really hard to stamp on any t-shirt, they started manufacturing clothes, wetsuits, accessories and damn good boardshorts. If you ever worn one of them, you know what we’re talking about. And if you haven’t, then the fact that they won STAB’s boardshort competition 3 years in a row (the 3 only editions ever held in fact) should be sufficient to back up this statement.

In 9 years Critical Slide has grown substantially, however, the ethos and attitude still remains much the same: using the label as a platform to celebrate an emerging alternative movement within surf culture, one that is less about the winner’s podium and more about the simple joy of a deeply engaged surfing life. “The Society” is the crew of creative minds behind TCSS and the brand recently released a series of well thought short video docos celebrating these individuals that we encourage you to watch.

Talking about videos, one of the reasons we love the label is its fare share of irony that shows in most of their clips, but even more in the one above. Being part of the “Behind the brand” series run by Surfstich and STAB, the owners could have played it easy and complied to the formal game of hiring a filmmaker and getting themselves interviewed. But instead they created this little gem.
